With rising levels of malnutrition and the state of food security in South Africa during the C19 pandemic, we had a chat with Hilary Goeiman (Deputy Director : Integrated Nutrition Programme & Project Manager First 1000 Days Initiative) around the importance of nutrition during Early Childhood Development (ECD) and how we can address the poor nutritional status amongst this vulnerable population group moving forward.

About Hilary Goeiman:
Hilary Denice Goeiman is a registered Dietitian with a Masters in Nutrition(SU) and a PhD in Public Health(UWC). She is the provincial nutrition manager and project manager for the Western Cape Province, First 1000 days Initiative. She is the chairperson of the executive committee responsible for the conceptualisation, launch, developing a Theory of Change, implementing activities and the alignment of strategy with services. The Initiative is one of the strategic priorities in the Western Cape, working with multiple stakeholders to increase wellness, safety and tackling social ills through a Whole of Society Approach (WoSA).
